About the destination
Sciacca is a working fishing port and a thermal town, built in tiers above its harbour on the south-western coast. Its ceramics have been made here since the Middle Ages and still fill the workshops of the old streets; its February carnival is among the oldest in Sicily. Piazza Scandaliato opens like a terrace over the sea, and just outside town the Castello Incantato holds Filippo Bentivegna's thousands of carved stone heads among the olive trees. It is also a practical base for the south-west: Selinunte, the Scala dei Turchi and the Valley of the Temples are all within an hour.
